____ MINUS COLLECTIVE UNEARTH THE CUBE - keep 18th Oct 2008 as it lands at SE1 London ! _________)))))¬¬¬¬¬
Following a 10 weeks creative silence and the sad news about Magda being the victim of a theft, there are amazing Minus news as well.

MINUS COLLECTIVE UNEARTH THE CUBE: Operating under the premise of 10 weeks of silence, their intrepid team has been hard at work deciphering the secrets of the Cube after discovering this mysterious object in a clandestine excavation site. Initial tests reveal a dense, carbon based structure utilizing liquid crystal technology and while its origins remain unclear it seems to have been created by intelligence far greater than their own.

As guardian of the Cube, Richie Hawtin has released the following statement:

“What is apparent is that the Cube is a highly advanced communications device that responds positively to the presence of humans and interacts accordingly. By acting as a central hub it seems to allow us to direct our thoughts, collect and share ideas, transcend language and interconnect musically in ways previously not possible. We’re still in the early stages of research but it seems our destinies have somehow become interlinked.

The global Contakt events are the next phase of our research. The Cube’s technology will strengthen the connection between the performers but it will to go further, bringing together the people who share and support our music, giving them the chance to interact personally with the Cube and in doing so, gain access to the Cube Network. That’s why we’re holding these events, to create a unique, interactive environment that offers a new, closer form of communication. After all that’s what makes us human… and if technology can increase that, we should embrace it.“

A sequence of individually crafted events at key locations around the world have therefore been organised to celebrate the past ten years of Minus and allow like-minded individuals to make contakt with the Cube. Long time collaborators Richie Hawtin (sound) and Ali Demirel (visual lighting) will be responsible for the event’s overall atmosphere, exploring new possibilities in sound and light interaction by sharing information from Richs new digital setup. Each night a rotating cast of Minus artists including Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Gaiser and Heartthrob along with a host of special guests will take the stage, adding their own unique sound to this new, creative mix environment. This will not be a typical one set after another event but a smooth transition between the unique personalities and sounds that have made Minus what it is today.

In conjunction with the CONTAKT events, Minus is introducing a special CONTAKT membership card. The card contains a unique microchip that shares the inert properties of the Cube which will be on display at every location. Everyone who signs up during the first month will automatically be entered into the CONTAKT Early Member Draw. Three lucky winners, randomly identified by the Cube, will each receive a Tonium Pacemaker portable DJ device, loaded with an exclusive Minus digital catalogue pack. Alongside this, other benefits include 10% discount on all online orders at m-nus.com, full access to the m-nus.com community site and guestlist services for select Minus events and Richie Hawtin shows. Membership will also automatically grant access to the CUBE CONTEST allowing individuals to take part in our global experiment aimed at unlocking the true potential of the Cube.

The CUBE CONTEST experiment, devised together with some of the most innovative names in audio technology including Native Instruments, Allen & Heath and Tonium, will take place at the very heart of the Contakt event. The levels of intensity produced by the surrounding audio-visual experience will optimise conditions for human interaction with the Cube, allowing Contakt Members using their Contakt Membership card to approach, identify and make CONTAKT with the Cube. Active participants who assist in the experiment will be rewarded with the chance to win a Native Instruments Traktor Scratch System. After assimilating the collective information received from each event the Cube will randomly pick a winner.

After the last CONTAKT event in December all active members, who have made contakt with the Cube at any of the events, will have the chance to win one of three fantastic prizes in the final CONTAKT sweepstakes. The Grand Prize winner will receive a Native Instruments package including Native Instruments Komplete Software Instruments, NI Traktor Scratch System and NI Kore System. The 2nd prize winner will receive an Allen & Heath Xone:92 mixer and the 3rd prize is a €200.00 m-nus.com online gift certificate.

However, the experience goes deeper still. With the Cube’s energy permeating throughout each location, everyone in attendance will be able to tune in to the Cube’s Open Network, interacting remotely with the Cube through handheld devices (ie. iPhone, iPod Touch, and other WiFienabled phones and media devices). To further their connection to Minus, people will be free to download special CONTAKT items including unreleased tracks & media and also upload demos to a special drop box hosted by the Cube.

lol!

there's some sweet line up below with hawtin, magda, troy pierce, wink, steve bug, guido schneider, tobi neuman, konrad blk, luciano, etc..next month June 15th 2008, blurp, website below :

Summer has arrived in Berlin, and that means outdoor parties. First off the mark is Sunday Adventure Club featuring Hawtin, Luciano, Magda and a dozen more.

The party takes place both outdoors and indoors across three stages near Postbahnhof in June, and you couldn’t ask for a bigger lineup. Check this ridiculous list: Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink, Luciano, Matthew Dear’s Big Hands, Zip, Magda, Marc Houle, Loco Dice and Marco Carola back to back, Guido Schneider, Cassy, Karotte, Tobi Neumann, Paco Osuna, Troy Pierce, Matt John, Steve Bug, Heartthrob, Konrad Black and Rebekah Aff. In short, everyone in Berlin except for Ricardo.

The party happens from 10 am to 10 pm outside, then moves indoors until the wee hours. Not a bad appetizer for Sonar at all – just don't forget to catch the plane.

very cool website >>>>>>> sundayadventureclub.de

Richie Hawtin’s Minus crew have always had a good relationship with the people behind London’s Fabric club, so we were rather disappointed to learn that when the techno family brings their groundbreaking Contakt audiovisual club night to London they won’t be presenting it at Fabric’s new club Matter, at The 02 Arena.

Instead Hawtin, Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Heartthrob and Gaiser will take over the cavernous old rave venue seOne in London Bridge, which is still a half decent venue when packed, I suppose.

But Minus’ Contakt events are the perfect fit for Matter - in fact, we can’t think of any other club event in the world that would better suit the new futuristic club.

For a start, Richie Hawtin recently said : “I would love to have control over an immersion-styled environment where there is no separation between the crowd and the performer. I hope that Contakt is the beginning of that idea!”

And when Matter opens on September 19th it will employ the most futuristic, advanced sound, light and visual system of any nightclub in the world.

Matter has a “body kinetic” dancefloor, with 80 pistons underneath the ground transmitting energy through clubbers’ skeletal systems, which dissipates in their chests, effectively turning bodies into organic speakers.

The soundsystem allegedly allows DJs to create 3D soundscapes, so in theory, a DJ could take a bassline, and have it wash around the venue in a circular motion, recreating the feeling of being inside a tornado.

Matter’s futuristic space is Contakt’s destiny - Well hello?! That is what Hawtin and co. are all about.

Matter will also have eight cinema-quality projectors suspended on yokes in the main room which can project solid bands of colour onto minute targets down to the nearest millimeter.

That sounds a lot like an immersive club environment to me.

So why the hell isn’t Contakt being held at Matter? We demand an answer from Fabric or Minus.

For the sake of pushing electronic music culture forwards, this pairing needs to happen.

Like if we’re going to put a man on Mars; Russia, China and the United States are going to have to suck it up.

RICHIE HAWTIN on LIFE as a FAMOUS DJ!!!!

“This job is tiring, stressful, a pain in the ass, shit, amazing and the best job in the world,” jokes Richie Hawtin about his life as a globetrotting techno superstar DJ.
Whilst many people aspire to be famous DJs, their outlook is often tinted by visions of grandeur – they see the superstars playing records, hanging out in the VIP areas sipping champagne with girls on their arm, and they want the same. But away from the spotlight and smoke machines, life as a famous DJ can be lonely and exhausting.
“I don’t have a normal life or normal relationships, I gave those up 18 years ago,” reveals Richie. “I sometimes think it would be nice to have the quiet life, but that would probably only last three weeks.”
Hawtin believes the secret to surviving life in the techno lane is by having the support of great people – for him, that means family.
“We moved from England to Canada when I was nine-years old,” he says. “We left behind in the UK all our aunts and uncles and suddenly it was just the four of us 8000 miles away from home. We had to create a whole new life for ourselves and that transition brought us closer together as a family. We’ve depended on each other ever since.”
You may be surprised to hear that Richie’s mum used to do the guestlist at his Plastikman events during the early Detroit years. And both his mother and father can still be seen hanging out backstage at clubs and festivals whilst their son spins to thousands on stage.
“I think they’re proud, but sometimes they think I should chill out,” reveals Hawtin. "My mum said to me recently ‘It’s not all about Contakt and Cubes, you know’ but then my parents came to our Contakt show during Sonar and they said it was the most professional show we had ever done. That felt good.”

Less than 200 advance tickets left for Minus' Contakt London

If you're thinking about heading to Richie Hawtin and his Minus crew's Contakt London event at SeOne on October 18th, you'd best get a move on and get yourself an advance ticket, fast.

All online outlets are sold out, and the only places you can get advance tickets now are from Phonica Records in Soho ( 020 7025 6070 ), or Bread and Honey off Old Street ( 020 7253 4455 ), for £22. You have to buy the tickets from these outlets in person. Tickets will be available on the door for £25, but expect a long, long, long queue - considering that when Hawtin last played in London at Easter at fabric, people were queueing up from the early afternoon! Note that the tickets will go on sale on the door from 9PM.

Those who get a ticket will be treated to Richie Hawtin, Magda, Gaiser, Heartthrob, Marc Houle and Troy Pierce doing their multiple laptop back-to-back tag team style thing in Room 1, with Ambivalent, Konrad Black and Fabrizio Maurizi playing DJ sets alongside a live set from the unfathomably minimal JLPS in Room 2.

not sure what's happening to se1 from the shooting so let's hope it's all good for this event, otherwise they will have to reschedule which will be a real shame!

check out article below taken from beatportal for those interested :-)

Richie Hawtin has been flying the flag for techno for over 15 years, from his early releases as F.U.S.E. and Plastikman, to his groundbreaking releases ‘Decks, EFX & 909’ (1999) and ‘DE9: Closer To The Edit’ (2001).

As label boss of Minus, Hawtin has been the driving force behind what is arguably techno’s most successful record label.

Beatportal decided it was about time to pick Richie Hawtin’s brain and find out his inner thoughts about techno, the art of a live performance, and where he sees the future of techno turning.

“Techno to me should sound as if it came from tomorrow,” says Richie Hawtin.

“Techno music has always been about taking something from the present and manipulating it to make it sound as if its from the future.

“It’s about grabbing bits and pieces from tracks today and making something new.”

Electronic music and its DJs have always been obsessed by the ‘new’, and techno was the catalyst for the fascinating addiction to innovation that now precedes it.

Richie Hawtin believes that that fascination stems from mankind’s yearning for new experiences; an intrinsic need to explore and to learn from new encounters.

“As a DJ, I think it’s my job to create experiences worth remembering,” he says.

“It’s like your first kiss or the first time your child walks; the first time may not always be the best, but you’re never going to forget it!”

There is a theory that people involved in electronic music like the music because it is stimulating and its followers have varying degrees of Attention Deficit Disorder.

Richie isn’t convinced.

“I have a low attention span certainly, and I hope I get bored quicker than my audience, and hopefully that keeps me one step ahead of them,” he says.

“I don’t believe all that ‘techno is for A.D.D. sufferers’ stuff; maybe people are just curious? Or perhaps have misplaced energy.’

Richie Hawtin’s desire to stay one step ahead of his audience must have led to the creation of his Cube/Contakt events.

The live shows involve the Minus family playing together as a group on stage, some as DJs and others as live performers, with special LED visual and light show and artist/audience interactive possibilities offered by the futuristic-looking Cube.

The shows have been controversial and some have even mocked the Minus Stars Wars-esque promotion of Contakt, but if one ever needed proof of an artist pushing boundaries you’d need to look no further than the storm and scorn of the public surrounding him.

“We wanted to create a next generation performance, integrating and connecting the performers on stage as well as the audience members, involving each of them through the use of the interesting communication technologies,” says Richie.

“It is something we have experimented with before with the Narod Niki project, but I believe that we are taking it down a new tangent that we didn’t explore with that project,” he says, referring to the Ricardo Villalobos-led group that saw Thomas Franzman (Dimbiman), Dandy Jack, Cabanne, Akufen, Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Dan Bell, and Villalobos performing live together on stage with Robert Henke aka Monolake on central mixer duty.

If Richie Hawtin could have anything he wanted, regardless of the current state of technology, what would a live techno performance look like?

“Well my imagination is still bounded by what is possible,” he says, with a laugh.

“I would love to have control over an immersion-styled environment where there is no separation between the crowd and the performer. I hope that Contakt is the beginning of that idea!”

“In the old Detroit days we actually experimented with motion and heat sensors to give people a feeling that they were connected to the whole thing…so some of these ideas are not new ones for us, it’s just that now finally the technology is catching up and giving us the possibilities to really test them out.”

“I wish that we could make Contakt a five or 10-day show so that the crowd could be much smaller each day and the environment could be more controlled.

“Right now, technology allows for real surround sound and a 360º visuals but it’s economically unfeasible.”

Certainly in Richie Hawtin’s mind, techno culture and live performance have a long way to go.

It is that continuing evolution then, that makes techno so exciting.

As Hawtin concludes, “Taking somebody out of their routine and creating something that creates a spike in their lives is the power of electronic music.

“When the curtains opened at Sonar to reveal us five on stage, the audience were like ‘What the fuck is this?’”

“That ‘fuck me’ moment is very important to our lives… between these spikes that we all search for, life can be somewhat dull and boring”.

Bobby & Steve Presents
PRESS RELEASE
Dated: 09.10.08

Bobby & Steve Presents is brought to you by Zoo Groove Stereo & SVA Promotions. Collectively we have been promoting club nights in London since 1984 and have always maintained a high professional level of entertainment and security, as our customer care is paramount. And this has truly been a major factor of our success.

On Saturday the 4th October an incident occurred at the SeOne night club our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this incident. This was our second event at the SeOne Club; our first event was on Saturday 24th May 2008, at which we had 2,700 people attend. It ran smoothly because of our professionalism, and the fact that all the things we asked for were put into place. We trusted that this would be replicated.

On this occasion, we knew it was going to be a sell-out event. We kept the Club informed on pre-ticket sales and told them that we were going to reach capacity on the night. We requested a meeting to make sure that we took all possible security measures to keep the environment safe, taking into consideration the safety of our staff and customers.

On the week leading up to the event we had the meeting with the club manager, the assistant manager and head of security as we had some important points that we needed to raise!

The venue SeOne let us down on all grounds…. They didn’t secure the venue enough, after being briefed 2 weeks prior to the event we discussed all safety issues regarding the night, which were,

Everyone to go through the metal dectors and then receive a stringent search
No caps, hoods or trainers
And definitely no groups of guys to be admitted especially if they didn’t fit our criteria for the night and even if they had purchased a ticket prior to the event!

All of this was reiterated to the head of security & the assistant manager of the venue in our pre-opening meeting at 9.30pm on the night. After opening at 10pm they didn’t have any hand held dectors, the metal detector wasn’t working as promised by the management, the searches wasn’t stringent enough on entry, basically, they completely ignored all our requests and done the complete opposite!

We requested at 11pm for them to get another 5 more security to strengthen the door and to police the queues outside and that was also ignored on several occasions and they also were letting in the wrong people without our knowledge, through the VIP entrance.

We pride ourselves on our clientele and our loyal fan base who have been following us for many years. For such a thing to happen at one of our events is unacceptable and we just want to make it very, very clear to everybody that this was subject to the venue being run very unprofessionally and only interested in getting the numbers through the doors to make a happy bar take - and not thinking about the safety of our customers.

For the record, we booked Kenny Dope 8 weeks prior to our event; we paid flights, dj fee & hotel costs in full 3 weeks prior to the event.

After receiving the devastating news that the legendary Kenny Dope was unable to fly, We sent out a press release on Friday 3rd October at 12.45pm and tried to inform everybody that we could possibly reach in such a short space of time that Kenny Dope would not be appearing as we only found out late on Thursday night 2nd October (2 days prior to the event)

At 11am on Friday 3rd Oct we got on the phones and booked another Three American artists to ensure that we keep the quality of the entertainment at an ultimate high and believe me it wasn’t easy to secure these top A-List acts in the matter of a few hours…but we did, and we would like to thank, Kevin Hedge from Blaze, Teddy Douglas from the Basement boys & also Margaret Grace who performed two smashing tracks!

These were all additional costs to us (the promoters) which also included extra flights, hotels & ground transport.

Zoo Groove Stereo & SVA Promotions consistently strive to raise the bar by continuing to bring you these ground breaking events with the best, cutting edge house DJ’s.

We feel that we was let down by the management of SeOne and therefore we will not be doing anymore events at the venue.

We have also been informed by the venue that all property and belongings left in the cloakroom have been removed from the premises and can be reclaimed by calling the police. A dedicated number to call will be available in the next coming days.

We will be updating our website as soon as we receive more information, so visit www.bobbyandstevepresents.co.uk

let's hope management/se1 sorts out security/metal detectors going forward esp for contakt!
