A Preview To Nu Religions Second Birthday With Mark H And Full Press Details

Prefered style of music; Hardtrance / Hardhouse
Residencies; Polysexual, regular at Nu Religion and Frantic
Favorite hard house DJ; Rob Tissera and for Filth its got to be Karim
Favorite Label; Tidy
Favorite Tune; Technikal – Back To The Old Skool

How are you and what’s happening in the "Mark H" world at the moment?

I am really good thanks for asking. The “Mark H” world is very hectic at the moment, things are going great though, I have never been so busy as a dj. I have some great gigs coming up including a trip to Sweden with Lisa Lashes, BK and Cally Gage for the Godskitchen Boat Party. I am really looking forward to that, ive never been to one before, only hope I don’t get sea sick lol!! I am also lucky enough to be playing at four festivals this year, Escape Into the Park, Global Gathering, and Love Parade North and South in Ireland. I also have three dates in Ibiza, it’s about time I paid Ibiza a visit considering ive been a clubber and dj for so long now! I am really chuffed that Polys is over there to make its mark on the island.

What is your connection to Polysexual?

I have now been resident dj for Poly for the last 3 years. Recently I have taken over promoting Polysexual. I select the djs who I think will do the most damage and have fun creating themes. Things are going really well and we have loads of tour dates coming up as well as our monthly parties at Air!

Where you a mad clubber before you where a DJ?

Ha ha, yes I admit I used to own some glowsticks and even dance on podiums…….clubbing has changed for me now though since being a dj, well you know how the old cliché goes, that ‘dj’s don’t dance’ I have a reputation to up hold now you know lol…! No, but seriously back in the day I was very much into my trance and I was a regular at Godskitchen in Birmingham making some serious shapes lol!! I also caught the hardhouse bug and I often clubbed at Polysexual, Sundissential, Storm and Insomniacs. They were the good old days!

What, in your opinion, makes a good dj?

I feel there’s a real art to it, there are so many things that contribute to a good dj. First and foremost a dj who makes it impossible for you to leave the dance floor because they just keep playing tune after tune. They should have good crowd interaction and get the crowd going which helps to create an atmosphere on the dance floor. I also like dj’s who push boundaries with music and who are not afraid to try new things, like new tunes, using instruments and doing tricks on the decks. And finally the most important thing in my eyes is having time for you fans, it is just so important!!

What do you do when you’re not playing out?

On top of promoting Poly’s several hours a day and dj’ing out most weekends, I still do my full time day job as an electrician during the week. So as you can imagine, any free time I do get is valued, I like being at home and I try to relax as much as possible, my idea of relaxing is watching DVD’s and going on my Playstation 3….(it’s all about the Playstation)!!…Call of Duty 4…ingenuous lol!!

I've seen a couple of tunes with your name on now are there plans for any more and if you could choose any Hardhouse DJ/Producer in the world to make a tune with, who would it be?

Yeah I am in the studio a lot at the moment mainly making tunes for my sets, but expect to see lots more tunes coming out over the next few months with my name on, before I’ve even finished a tune I am thinking about the next one I want to do!!

I was recently in the studio with BK, being asked to work on collaboration with him was a dream come true!

Can you remember the first record you bought? How and where do you usually buy your records these days?

Yeah the first track I brought was Ingo – Are you ready for this, wow that sure was a long time ago!! I used to get my records here in Birmingham from ‘Hard to Find Records’ but I have not gone out and purchased a record for the last 2 years because everything has gone digital now and all I play is cds, I guess it’s a quicker way to do things nowadays. I am lucky enough to be on several mailing lists too so I get tracks sent to me.

What tracks are pushing your buttons at the moment?

I have done a remix of the massive hardcore anthem ‘See the Light’ with my good mates at CL studios, this is taking the roof off during my sets! I am really in to Amber D’s stuff at the moment her track Virus is amazing!!

What has been your favorite Nu Religion moment?

It’s got to be my back to back set with Jordon Suckly in room 2 at The Mass. We had the room rocking from start to finish. I hate back to backs normally, but me and Jordon worked really well together!

Finally can we count on you to get up and sing happy birthday to Nu Religion?

Well I’m not sure if I will be getting up to sing as I would probably clear the club, but how about I bring the candles for the Birthday cake lol!

Thanks Mark for taking sometime out to speak with us hopefully will catch you on the dance floor on May 10th
