It’s a New Skool special this month at Sick! On The Dancefloor HQ, as our riotous night of debaucherous electronic music brings more dance floor mayhem to SEone on Saturday 5th April.
Touted as the ‘Best Electro night in London', Sick! on the Dancefloor continues to fly the flag for showcasing the young hotshot DJ/Producers in the country, with 3 arenas of electro, minimal-tech, and big room house music.

This month Sick! has gone all out to bring you another much sought after line-up, reflecting everything that’s hot on the electronic underground scene right now.

In the main Sick! room, expect nothing less then the best bad-ass-basslines lead by hot production outfit Stupid Fresh. They have been causing a stir on the scene of late with some amazing remixes for Micky Slim, Bass Kelph and The Aston Shuffle.

Stupid Fresh have burst on to the scene over the last 6 months and with the help of Bomb Squad records and are starting to tear up dancefloor all over the UK. We welcome then to Sick! On the Dancefloor for a full on wibbly wobbly wonk fest............

How did you get your foot in the door of the world of dance music?

Myspace mainly. We just got in touch with producers / djs we liked, and discovered other musical movers and shakers that would probably remain unknown without Myspace. Making contact with Hook ‘n’ Sling was a biggy cos he put our track ‘Ho’ on a Chew The Fat compilation last June when no one had a clue who we were. People were coming up to us like “Who are you by the way?”.

How did you two meet?

We met at a Dj competition in Leeds in early 2006 I think. Tod approached me cos I was proppa bo, and from then we began messing about making beats on Reason together. I like his cheeky smile. He likes mine too. Ear to fucking ear I tell thee.

Who would you say you look up to in terms of DJs or Producers?

There have been loads of influences on me since I got into dance music, from Armand van Helden to Timo Mass to Thomas Schumacher to Jon Carter to Green Velvet to Micky Slim. I used to love stuff on Gigolo Records and City Rockers too. Production-wise at the moment I’m enjoying The Aston Shuffle, the stuff on Jack Union label, Bass Kleph, Trevor Loveys, Jaimie Fanatic, and lots of others that I can’t be arsed listing but whose tracks we play. Music is mint.

Your playing at Sick! On The Dancefloor on April 5th what can we expect?

Two of the most handsome DJ’s known to man armed with lots of bouncy energetic stuff, with plenty of wibble, wobble and wibblewobble. I predict violence and nudity. It’s a simple formula – 75% fresh, 25% stupid.

You're residents for a few nights around the country, how did they come about?

Who knows? Desperation? Bribery? Mainly through friends I suppose, who were desperate and bribable (I made up a word). Who cares? Nobody.

Who is the best Dj you have played with?

I’d say Micky Slim, not just because he’s the BombSquad overlord. Of course I’ve seen him smash places to pieces but he has also ‘warmed up’ for us and kept it all sexy and groovy, keeping the crowd moist but not too wet. Good skills from the blonde bombshell.

As well as being DJs, you produce a lot of your own stuff. How did you get in to producing and what equipment do you use?

I’ve always enjoyed making music since picking up a guitar and jamming with my granny on the piano when I was about 12. We used to go out busking together, and eventually she opened my eyes to the rave scene. It was her that got me my first keytar, and it remains the hub of our studio setup.

You have an outstanding production portfolio that speaks for itself, and have had two top tens on beatport already. What does it feel like to know people all round the world are buying your music?

It’s a nice feeling to know our stuff has been fairly popular so far. We just make stuff that we’d like to hear in a club, no more no less, and if some people agree with us then all the better! Get your giblets out.

Whats has been your favourite remix to do so far?

I don’t have a particular favourite, though I have enjoyed remixing stuff with decent vocals the most because it’s fun to build the track around the vocal in our own way.

Your signed to Micky Slim’s Bomb Squad Records. How did that come about? And what have you got coming up on the label?

We’ve pestered Micky on Myspace since we heard his early stuff, we eventually managed to stalk him a bit in real life too and I suppose he had no escape in the end. He liked a few of the remixes we did at the end of last year and gratefully wanted to get us involved with the relaunch of his label. We currently have remixes of ‘Jump’ and ‘Hit The Club’ ready to go, and are busy working on an EP for BombSquad. Beyond that, expect more remixes and BombSquad collaborations…

Which UK nightclub have you not yet played, but would love to?

Personally anywhere in Edinburgh, cos it’s my hometown and it would be great to have all my old muckers there heckling and jeering to the end. My old friends are the best.

If you could have made a tune, which would it have been and why?

I’ve always liked the Countdown theme tune, and have actually met the guy that made it. He’s real nice.

Have you got any mad plans for the summer?

Of course! We have a 3-weekend tour to Australia in May / early June, hopefully we can get together with Bass Kleph and The ‘Shuffle boys and lay down something juicy. We will definitely be finding our way to Ibiza at some point, and production-wise I have no doubt we will be abusing a brand new studio between parties. Oh, and at some point I’ll help my mum move house as well. She’s mint.
